Mohammad Kaif has opened up about a worrying tactic employed by England’s fast bowlers at Lord’s. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former Indian cricketer claimed that Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer had a brutal plan when Jasprit Bumrah came out to bat. Kaif revealed. “Stokes and Archer planned to bowl bouncers against Bumrah. If he doesn't get out, hit him on the finger or shoulder to injure him. This stays in the mind of bowlers—to injure the main bowler, whom our batters find tough to bat against. This was the plan, which worked later (to get him out)." Bumrah had joined Ravindra Jadeja in the middle during the second session of Day 5, with India trailing. England were firmly in control, and Bumrah became the immediate target of relentless short-pitched attacks. Stokes and Archer bowled sharp bouncers, repeatedly testing the lower-order batter’s defense and patience. Bumrah held on for 54 balls before falling to a mistimed pull, caught for 5. With Jadeja battling alone, Bumrah’s presence frustrated the hosts. The strategy of persistent short balls finally brought reward, not with injury but a key dismissal. The tension on the field had already boiled over earlier with repeated sledging and confrontations. England won the Test by 22 runs, regaining a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. India’s only win came in the second match at Edgbaston by a record 336 runs, despite resting Bumrah. The fourth Test begins at Old Trafford, Manchester on July 23, where India still await their first Test win.
