He said Parthiv had a brilliant cricketing brain at that time, making him the strongest contender in the camp for that leadership role. Moeen Ali said: "Yes, I think he was. I'm quite sure he was. In the final year when Gary Kirsten was there-after the first year, I believe-Parthiv was in line to become captain. He had a brilliant cricketing brain. That was the talk at the time. I don't know what happened or why it didn't materialise, but I'm sure he was seriously considered for the role.” Virat Kohli took over the leadership from Daniel Vettori in 2013 and kept it till 2021 officially. The former RCB skipper had a terrific period during 2016-19, where he piled up huge runs and contributed to his team’s success. The breakthrough year was 2016, especially when he took his team to the finals single-handedly but had to suffer a disappointing loss against David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad. Moeen Ali, who was part of the RCB setup during 2018-21, revealed the key detail, citing that the franchise was keen to remove Virat as the captain in 2019. However, it didn’t happen, and Kohli continued as skipper, and later, Faf du Plessis took over the duties in 2021 after Virat Kohli willingly left the captaincy. Coming to the present, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally broke their jinx and lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy under Rajat Patidar after 18 long years. RCB had a terrific campaign overall, where every player contributed to the team’s success. Yet again, Virat Kohli remained the mainstream guy who contributed with his bat, scoring 657 runs in 15 matches.
