England cricketers Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid addressed questions about representing Pakistan in international cricket during the Beard Before Wicket podcast. The duo admitted they had been asked similar questions before as well. Adil Rashid explained that he plays for England because he was born there. Had he been born in Pakistan, he would have gone through their system and played for them instead. During the conversation, the host mentioned that if given the chance, he would choose Pakistan over England. Moeen Ali dismissed the idea, calling it “crazy,” and clarified that playing for Pakistan had never crossed his mind. Rashid further clarified that he never considered switching teams and always wanted to play for England. "It's never crossed my mind to say, right, I'm going to go to Pakistan and play for them. Why would I?" he said. 'We don't qualify to play for Pakistan' The host of the podcast also asked about the qualification process for representing Pakistan. Both Moeen and Rashid confirmed they do not meet the eligibility criteria. Rashid assumed that he must be playing domestic cricket in Pakistan to gain eligibility. Moeen then asked Rashid if he would consider playing for Pakistan if England wasn’t an option. Rashid remained firm, saying he would still aim to make it through England’s system. Adil Rashid sought further clarification, asking if he could play county cricket in England while trying to qualify through the England pathway. Moeen explained that he could, but only as an overseas player. Rashid admitted he had never considered such a scenario but acknowledged that factors like finances, lifestyle, and passion for the game would influence the decision. "I've actually not thought about anything like that. But I would think about it, depending on how much you love cricket and how much you really want it. The financial side is there, the lifestyle as well—there are a lot of things to consider," he said. Moeen, however, had a different perspective. He stated that he would be open to playing for any international team if the opportunity arose.
