Kolkata Knight Riders bought Mitchell Starc for a record Rs 24.75 crore in the last auction of the IPL. The Australian fast bowler is yet the most expensive cricketer in the history of the competition. However, this time KKR authorities did not retain him. Starc broke the silence about him not being in purple. Even though Starc didn't have a great start with the ball in the initial stage of the tournament, it was he who played a crucial role in giving the Kolkata Knight Riders their much-awaited trophy. The Aussie speedster grabbed 17 wickets, that includes his 2 important wickets of Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad. This year, the scenario doesn't look cordial, as Starc mentioned the communication gap between KKR management and himself. The veteran pacer expressed his disappointment for not being informed earlier. He told the Daily Telegraph, "I still haven’t heard from them. It is what it is, that’s franchise cricket, so all barring the Hyderabad boys (Pat Cummins and Travis Head) will be in the auction." Veny Mysore disappointment on retention limitations According to the rules of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Starc has not been included in KKR's list of six. KKR CEO Venky Mysore, however, did mention that six retentions are not enough for a team to conduct a successful campaign. Mysore said in a statement, "Obviously the number of retentions do feel less, because we first build a squad and try to put all pieces in place in order to compete. And when you compete, and particularly in our case, thankfully, we won our third championship, and after that, it becomes even more difficult, because you really want to keep the squad that you have carefully built, who are also the defending champions." During the retentions, KKR had to release many important names, like Starch, Venkatesh Iyer, and even the winning captain, Shreyas Iyer. They chose to invest trust in Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Varun Chakravarthy.
