Mitchell Owen of Hobart Hurricanes etched his name in the history books by scoring the fastest ever century in the final of a Big Bash League. He achieved this feat by scoring a blistering 39-ball century in the final of BBL 2024-25 against Sydney Thunder. He also matched the record of Craig Simmons who scored a 39-ball century against the Adelaide Strikers in 2014, surpassing Luke Wright's 44 ball-ton and Glenn Maxwell & Josh Brown's century in 41 balls. In the big match at the Hobart, Owen seemed in much hurry as the 23-year-old hammered his ton in just 9.4 overs during the chase. His innings of 108 off 42 comprised of six sixes and eleven fours, helped his side to get their hands on the title in just 14.1 over. He unleashed flurry of shots against every bowler before losing his wicket to Tom Andrews. However, he had already done the damage, making them game one sided in the Favour of Hurricanes. Jason Sangha scored 67, while their skipper and southpaw, David Warner hammered 48. The game looked in the favor of the Thunder until the duo was batting out in the middle. However, post Warner's dismissal, the Thunder innings was slowed down and they were reduced to 97 for 1 in 10.2 to 182 for 7 in 20 overs.
