Former fast bowler Mitchell Johnson feels that the Australian team should drop Marnus Labuschagne from the playing XI for the pink-ball Test at Adelaide starting from December 6. Labuschagne, who is generally a middle-order batter, has been struggling with his batting form. Even in the Perth Test, he scored 2 off 52 balls in the first inning and 3 off 5 balls in the second. Johnson, who wrote a column to Nightly, has urged the team to drop him. Not only that, he said that Labuschagne should play enough domestic cricket, regaining form before coming to international cricket. Labuschagne, who is recently suffering from a dip, has amassed the world, with 4119 runs at an average of 48 from 51 matches. However, in his last 10 innings, he has failed to cross double digits. Regarding this, Johnson wrote, "It would give him a chance to play some Sheffield Shield and club cricket away from the pressure of playing for your country. I feel he would benefit from that more than going out there trying to survive against Jasprit Bumrah and co." However, Johnson is not supporting the idea of sidelining Labuschagne from the team forever. He feels that Labuschagne yet has a long career left and has been an integral part of the team so far. Johnson just wants him to do better and get some confidence back from domestic cricket before padding up for Australia. Johnson expressed concerns about him too, citing his observations on how the star batter is missing the ball on his pads. Johnson wrote, "Steve Smith's form is a serious concern. He looks like he has lost his sharpness we are used to, missing balls on his pads that in the past were easy runs." Australia will play the second Test, which is eventually a pink-ball day-nigh Test match at Adelaide, on December 6.
