The former New Zealand cricket player and RCB Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, said that Virat Kohli, at this stage of his career prioritises winning games for his team rather than chasing personal milestones. India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, who is currently going through a rough patch in his Test career is not able to score a single 50+ score this year. The last Test series he played against Bangladesh saw his decline in form where he failed to convert those good starts to a big number. This is not the first time when Virat is facing a decline in his Test form, he has already seen it during his toughest career phase between 2020-2022. In the last two years, he has just managed to score 2 centuries. As the Indian team is gearing up for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, the team needs their star batter to get his form back and get the maximum game time ahead of the BGT. It will be crucial for the team because they will be defending it against a team who are desperately waiting to get their trophy back on their home soil. Hesson said: "I think Virat Kohli is at that stage in his career where he just wants to try and win games for India. And I think that's a dangerous stage for other sides, because if he’s doing that rather than focusing on numbers, the big scores will come naturally. The ability to hold a tempo in Australia is so important—being able to counterattack and knowing the right moments to do so. As mentioned, from 30 to 60 overs is a key phase. If Kohli is batting at that point, he won’t let the game drift. It’s about finding gaps, hitting gaps, getting ones and twos, and then, if they try and attack him, then he can counterattack." Ahead of the BGT, Virat Kohli is preparing for the three-match home Test series against New Zealand which is scheduled to start from October 16th.
