England's former skipper Michael Vaughan has said that Jofra Archer must not be part of the playing XI for England's second Test against India at Edgbaston. Jofra Archer recently marked his comeback to first-class cricket by featuring in a four-day game for Sussex his first in nearly four years. The right-arm pacer last appeared in a Test match back in 2021, aiming to prove his fitness for a potential return to the longest format. Earlier this month, England selector Luke Wright had suggested that if Archer completed the four-day game successfully, he could be in the running for selection for the second Test, which is due to start on July 2. Here is what Vaughan Said in the BBC Test Match Special "The good thing is that Jofra is back in the equation - but I'd like to see him play another four-day game. He's not played the longer format for four years so why, on the back of one game for Sussex against Durham, would you rush him back? We know the intensity at Test-match level is so different to county cricket. Let him play another four-day game - I would go with the same line-up, as long as the bowlers are fine and there are no niggles," Also Read: Will Jasprit Bumrah play all Tests? Coach Gambhir provides huge update after loss at Headingley The 30-year-old paceman came back with returns of 1 for 32 from 18 overs in Durham's first innings, his only victim being opener Emilio Gay. Archer emerged in the limelight in 2019, for delivering the Super Over during England's victorious home World Cup campaign, and then taking 22 wickets in four Ashes Tests at an average of 20.27. Sussex will start a new County Championship game against Warwickshire on Sunday, which coincides with the second Test. Vaughan has supported the bowlers who played in the first Test to keep their spots and opined that Archer should not be pushed back into the team too soon. "Josh Tongue, the hoover, let him do that again at Edgbaston. Chris Woakes needs more runs, and then Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse have been fantastic. They're 1-0 up, played some great cricket, so go with the same again," Vaughan added.
