As India begin a fresh era of Test cricket, everyone looks towards their highly-awaited five-match series against England on June 20, 2025, at Headingley. After seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli recently retired, the series not only signifies the start of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle but also an important transition phase for Indian cricket. In the backdrop of speculation and uncertainty, former Australia captain Michael Clarke has come out with a dramatic prediction. Even without experienced campaigners such as Rohit, Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Shami, Clarke is confident about India's chances. The side, now captained by young Shubman Gill with Rishabh Pant as his second in command, has plenty of new talent. Interacting with the Rev Sportz in an exclusive interview. Here is what Clark Said: “Players come, players go, people retire, and the game moves on… That does not mean a new captain is the worst thing for India. Somebody retires, and that gives somebody else an opportunity,” “It’s going to be 3-2. There you go. I’m going for India. I’m going to watch the Lord’s Test. I’m going to watch India play at Lord’s. So, I am going for India. I want them to win 3-2,” Read also: ICC updates two-ball rule in ODI cricket The bowling attack, lacking the experience of Shami and Ashwin, continues to possess substantial firepower. Clarke also emphasized the need to handle Jasprit Bumrah's workload, with the pacer set to play just three of the five Tests because of fitness issues. The task, Clarke says, will be to ensure maximum impact from Bumrah in the games he does play. But the real game-changer, says Clarke, may be left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. With England's attacking "Bazball" style of cricket under Brendon McCullum, Kuldeep's knack of snatching opportunities is the "X-factor" for India. “I think he’s earned the right to be India’s first-pick spinner. I think he’s a match-winner. I think he has an X factor. And I think he will be defining. If India wins the series, I think Kuldeep Yadav could be the difference,” India's pace attack Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh will again stretch the English batters, while the new leadership will have to create clever plans to respond to England's home conditions.
