India cricketer Rinku Singh has reflected on the viral clips from IPL last season, where he repeatedly approached Virat Kohli for a bat. Representing Kolkata Knight Riders, Rinku admitted that breaking a bat given by Kohli before requesting a replacement did not portray him favorably. Kohli initially seemed displeased but eventually provided a new bat. Speaking to News24 Sports, Rinku said, “Main thoda zyada badnaam ho gaya tha bat ke chakkar mai. I used to meet him (Kohli) normally and then asked for a bat. The cameraman would follow me. It wasn’t being perceived well. It wasn’t good for me and bhaiya (Kohli) too as videos of bat were going viral.” While Rinku limited interactions with Kohli during IPL 2025, fellow Uttar Pradesh cricketer Swastik Chikara became prominent for shadowing the former India captain. Rinku noted, “For Chikara, it was a big deal to be around such a big player. He became his shadow. He learnt a lot from him." Read also: Poonch Cricketer succumbs to horrific accident! I did get Mahi bhai’s bat and Rohit bhai’s bat. It’s a big deal for me getting the bats from such players." Rinku emphasized his habit of gifting bats to those genuinely in need. He explained, “I have given a lot of bats myself. I do give bats to those who need them but those who have contracts, I don’t."
