The absence of Indian ace pacer Mohammed Shami in the Indian national team has created a huge turmoil in the cricketing periphery. Even though Shami has often said it was BCCI's decision, the BCCI officials revealed that Shami doesn't receive calls. Reports suggested that the national selectors had tried to call Shami repeatedly. However, Shami did not receive the call. The selectors were planning to assign him for the India A tour. A board official said, “The narrative that there was no communication with Shami isn’t completely true. The selectors had checked in on his fitness and wanted him to get some match practice in English conditions. In 64 Tests, he has claimed 229 wickets, while in 108 ODIs, he has bagged 206 wickets with a best of 7/57. Shami has also taken 27 wickets in 25 T20Is and remains a strike bowler known for pace and accuracy.
