The star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has denied saying any kind of updates on his fitness, especially willing to avoid unnecessary controversies. He is currently representing Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Bengal has pulled out a win in a tight match against the guests, defeating them by 141 runs. Despite Shahbaz Ahmed being declared as the player of the match, Shami shone in the match with eight wickets in both innings. Shami's fitness has been an important topic of discussion. Shami, who was one of the celebrated pacers in the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup, has been out of play since the England white ball series in India in early 2024. Recently, he even gave a bite where he debunked chief selector Ajit Agarkar, claiming the former unfit. Shami claimed that he can easily play for India if he can play a four-day Ranji match. That interview had created a lot of ifs and buts. However, now, after his fifer in the second innings against Gujarat, he refused to say anything about his fitness. Rather, he focused more on grabbing whatever opportunity he got. Speaking to the Times of India, he said, "I always end up being in controversies — you (the media) have made me that kind of bowler. Mai bolunga to bawal ho jayega (If I will speak, I will get in trouble)." Whatever is written in our destiny will happen. A person moves forward believing in his luck. Success and failure are part of life." Shami also said that he takes a lot of pride in representing Bengal. He said, "When you call it a comeback match, I honestly don't understand. Maybe you could have said that last year. Playing for Bengal always comes straight from the heart."
