The 150-year anniversary of the first-ever Test match, which was contested at the MCG in 1877, will be celebrated in March 2027 with another Test at the same venue between Australia and England. In the inaugural match from March 15 to 19, Australia won by 45 runs, while in the second match at the MCG, England won, leveling the series. In 1977, another Test was held at the MCG to commemorate its 100-year anniversary, and this time Australia again won by 45 runs against England. CA CEO Nick Hockley said: “The 150th anniversary Test match at the MCG in March 2027 will be a wonderful celebration of the pinnacle format of the game at one of the world’s great sporting arenas and we can’t wait to host England on that occasion." The Boxing Day Test will still be held on December 26 of every year, together with the New Year's Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, up until the season of 2030-31.
