The iconic Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai is ready to host a celebration of 50 memorable years. It promises to be a historic event for cricket lovers as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has planned a week-long grand celebration. The celebration will see some of the biggest names in Indian cricket gather together to celebrate this golden milestone. The main event is on January 19, but the celebration will start as early as 12th of January. Other cricketing stars such as Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma, among other legendary cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and others, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ajinkya Rahane, Diana Edulji will also mark their presence. Ajinkya Naik, the president of MCA said: “As we mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic Wankhede Stadium, I warmly invite all cricket fans to be part of this momentous occasion. Our legendary heroes will join us in the celebrations, and together, we will pay tribute to the rich legacy of the Wankhede Stadium which is a pride of Mumbai. Let’s make this celebration truly unforgettable.” The celebrations will begin on January 12 with a friendly cricket match between MCA officials and Consul Generals. On January 15, the unsung heroes of Mumbai cricket, the grounds men, will be honored with a health camp and a special lunch as a gesture of gratitude for their hard work over the years. January 19th is the grand finale, with several activities planned for the day. Mandira Bedi and Prasanna Sant will host the evening, where Avadhoot Gupte and Ajay-Atul, one of the country's popular music duos, will also be performing. It will all come to an end with a breathtaking laser show on the iconic stadium. To celebrate this rich history, the MCA will roll out a coffee table book and a commemorative postal stamp on January 19. The Mumbai cricket team which played the stadium's first ever first-class match in 1974, will also be felicitated as part of special recognition to those players who are part of Wankhede's early history. Nostalgia mixed with gratitude and celebration, the 50th anniversary of Wankhede promises to be an event which cricket enthusiasts will remember for ages.
