After the IPL 2025 game against Royal Challenger Bengaluru, Virender Sehwag has issued a strong message to Rajasthan Royals' young sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The one-time Indian opener urged the debutant at just 14 years old to keep on a very humble ground, notwithstanding the great zealous spark start in the league. Last week, Suryavanshi entered into the annals of history when he became the youngest player to have ever played in an IPL match, making his debut for the Rajasthan Royals against the Lucknow Super Giants. He did not waste much time in making an impact by hitting the very first ball he faced-from Shardul Thakur-over the boundary for six. He then went on to score a brisk 34 off 20 balls before getting out. Suryavanshi has bored the appearances of only two matches and has a run total of 50 at a strike rate of 156.25. He has only just faced 32 balls but has already hit five sixes. Rajasthan Royals bought him for 1.1 crore rupees at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Riyan Parag, who is presently leading the Royals, stated that regular captain Sanju Samson is still rehabilitating from a tear. There is still no word from the team about when Samson would be fit to return, thereby increasing opportunities for Suryavanshi to shine even further. Sehwag said on Cricbuzz: "If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticized for not doing well, you will remain grounded. I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player." Next up for the Rajasthan Royals will be a match against the Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, April 28. The team is in dire need of a turnaround, having lost their last five matches and are currently lying eighth on the points table. Shewag added: "Suryavanshi must aim to play 20 years in the IPL. Look at Virat Kohli, he started playing when he was 19 years old, now he has played all 18 seasons. That is what he should be trying to emulate. But, if he is happy with this IPL, thinking that he is now a crorepati, had a great debut, hit a six off the first ball, maybe we won't see him next year." While this, however, was be viewed as advice; Sehwag warned the young kid against letting anything get in between his eyes. He reminded the aspirant 'one ought to remain grounded as on-field cricket gets attached with praise or empty praise'.
