Prithvi Shaw’s career continues to drift into uncertainty. Once heralded as the next big thing in Indian cricket, he now finds himself on the fringes. The 25-year-old opener remained unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction and was overlooked for Mumbai’s domestic squads. Punjab Kings’ rising star Shashank Singh, who shared the dressing room with Shaw during their Mumbai days, weighed in on the struggling batter’s plight. Speaking on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast, Shashank expressed his belief that Shaw still has the potential to revive his career. However, he also pointed out certain aspects Shaw might need to reconsider. He said, “Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. Maybe he can change something about his work ethic, maybe sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM, maybe improve his diet.” Shashank’s remarks hinted at deeper concerns about Shaw’s discipline and preparation. He acknowledged that while the young batter has immense talent, fine-tuning his approach could make a significant difference. Read also: Shreyas Iyer: Punjab Kings’ Lucky Charm for IPL 2025 Glory? Shaw’s Ongoing Struggles and Shashank’s Rise Despite the criticism, Shashank admitted that Shaw might already be working on these areas. He added, “Maybe he already is. He does not need me to advise him. He probably already has ten better people guiding him” Shaw recently led the Route Mobile team in the DY Patil T20 tournament, but his exclusion from the IPL and domestic circuit raises questions about his future. He had set a base price of ₹75 lakh for the auction, yet none of the ten franchises showed interest. Meanwhile, Shashank’s career is on an upward trajectory. His breakout season with PBKS saw him amass 354 runs at a blistering strike rate of nearly 165. As a result, he was the team’s first retention ahead of the mega auction, securing a ₹5.5 crore contract. Shashank’s remarkable rise even placed him among the most searched athletes on Google in 2024, alongside Hardik Pandya. As he gears up to play under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, Shaw remains on the sidelines, waiting for a turnaround that may not come without change.
