Punjab Kings are set to take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 33rd match of IPL 2025 at the high-scoring Chinnaswamy Stadium. Apart from being one of the very few mid-table clashes where both teams could possibly fight their way into the top four ranks, this match also has the additional heat of Glenn Maxwell coming back to RCB’s home ground—where he once spent a few seasons before moving to Punjab Kings in the 2025 mega auction. Maxwell, that former superstar of RCB, gets a chance of redemption in familiar land. So far, it has not been a season for Maxwell; 41 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 100. His highest score is only 30, and his average is 8.20; such numbers speak for themselves that he has been out of sorts. As for the bowling, he took four wickets in those six outings with an economy of 8.46, which is not what he is known for. But, for Maxwell, Chinnaswamy has been nothing short of a heaven. In this ground, he has played 18 innings and scored 354 runs at a strike rate of 171, which includes three fifties. His stint with RCB in 2023 was the best, where he scored 264 runs in just seven games with an astounding strike rate of 195.6. He maintained a strike rate of 150 even last year in five matches. Even with the ball, Maxwell has had some decent performances at this venue; 10 wickets taken in 11 matches. His batting average dropped last season; however, he was remarkable with the ball, clinching five wickets at an impressive economy of 7. The even surface and small boundaries at Chinnaswamy suit his attacking game. And should it click, Maxwell will re-ignite not only his golden flames but also those of Punjab Kings. So, it will be interesting to see whether he can prove his worth in a venue where he has tasted much success. A solid innings here could reinstate his confidence and spur him on to recovery from a fairly lean patch. The setting seems perfect; it just has to be Maxwell's time to shine.
