Ex-international cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar used a clever analogy to mock Glenn Maxwell's inconsistent career in the IPL. It's like saying one sees a maximum batting performance from Maxwell attending Halley's Comet once in 75 years-the comet's frequency of appearance. Maxwell's batting form has again been a hot topic since IPL 2024. He is a popular star, but a dismal run has seen him released from Royal Challengers Bengaluru just before the 2025 mega auction. Now playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS), this season Maxwell has scored only 37 runs in three matches, which includes a notable 30 runs against the Rajasthan Royals. Speaking to JioHotstar, Sanjay Manjrekar did the comparison: “Halley’s Comet orbits the sun and is visible from Earth once every 75 years. Just like that, Glenn Maxwell plays one good match in 75 games. It was last seen in 1986, and it will now be spotted in 2061. It’s the same case with Maxwell in batting. Glenn Maxwell is Halley’s Comet of Cricket.” Also Read | IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans defeats Mumbai by 36 runs While Maxwell's batting has been underwhelming, he has made some contributions with the ball. He has taken two telling wickets in this season, getting the key batsmen like Rishabh Pant of Lucknow Super Giants and Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans out. His contribution with the bat was sorely missed by PBKS in their recent 50-run defeat against the Rajasthan Royals. In the meanwhile, there was an outstanding 63 off 41 balls from Nehal Wadhera, but it was just when it was needed most during the chase of 206 runs that Maxwell failed to step to the plate.
