New Zealand suffered a big blow in the team after their fast bowler Matt Henry is facing a race against time to be fit for the Champions Trophy final against India on Sunday. Henry, the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, injured his shoulder while taking a catch during New Zealand’s semi-final win over South Africa in Lahore. The incident occurred when Henry dived forward to grab a sharp chance to dismiss Heinrich Klaasen. Though he left the field in discomfort, he later returned to bowl, giving hope to the New Zealand camp. However, his availability for the all-important final remains uncertain. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner sounded optimistic on Thursday, emphasizing that Henry had shown resilience by coming back onto the field. Despite hurrying up, Santner wanted Hendy to give him enough time to recover. Speaking to the reporters on Friday, Henry said, “Matt obviously landed on his shoulder and it was pretty uncomfortable. I guess the positive thing from our perspective is that he got back out there to bowl. We've had some scans done on him. We're going to give him every chance to be playing in this match, so still a little bit unknown at this stage. He's obviously pretty sore just from landing on the point of his shoulder, but yeah, hopefully he will be okay."
