Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis has called it a day on his One Day International (ODI) career, confirmed Cricket Australia on 6 February 2025. CA also confirmed that the all-rounder, who made his ODI debut in 2015, wants to focus on T20 cricket and hence, decided to retire from the 50-over international cricket. Stoinis, who was included in Australia's squad for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, will now be replaced after he announced his retirement from this format with immediate effect. Stoinis said: "Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful for every moment I've had in the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is something I'll always cherish." The all-rounder added: "This wasn't an easy decision, but I believe it's the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career. I've got a fantastic relationship with Ron (Andrew McDonald) and I've hugely appreciated his support." That match in Auckland cemented his place in Australia's XI for future matches in this format. Stoinis hammered his career best score of 146* in that match and he also picked up 3 wickets conceding 49 runs. Since then, Stoinis has played several cameos and has won multiple matches for Australia in this format. He has also performed well with the ball throughout his career in this format. Overall, Stoinis appeared in 71 ODIs for Australia in which the all-rounder scored 1495 runs, including one century and six half-centuries and he has also picked up 48 wickets, with the best being 3/16. He was a crucial part for Australia in their 2023 World Cup winning campaign and they will surely miss the services of Stoinis in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
