The Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi saw a run feast on Saturday as almost 800 runs were scored in the third and final ODI between India Women and Australia Women. In spite of Smriti Mandhana's record-breaking century, the visitors won by 43 runs and took the three-match ODI series 2-1. Australia, never having been beaten in a bilateral ODI series against India, batted first and scored 412, their highest-ever total in the format. Beth Mooney's 138 from 75 balls, Georgia Voll (81) and Ellyse Perry (68) put the visitors in the comfort zone. India replied magnificently, courtesy of Mandhana's hundred, but fell short at 369 in 47 overs. Earlier, skipper Alyssa Healy's 30 gave a good beginning, followed by fifties from Voll and Perry. While Mooney thrashed 23 fours and a six during her 75-ball innings. Her 57-ball hundred was second-third quickest in women's ODIs, taking Australia to 338/3 after 40 overs. Even though India forced a collapse of 6 for 34 in the final seven overs. Interestingly, 412 was India's record highest conceding total in ODIs. While pursuing, Mandhana sprinted to a 23-ball fifty and subsequently thrashed her hundred in 50 balls, the second-quickest women's ODI ton after Meg Lanning's 45-ball hundred in 2012. Together with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a 32-ball fifty, she compiled 121 for the third wicket. But when Harmanpreet was lbw to Kim Garth for 52, and Mandhana followed soon after for 125 off 63 balls. Interestingly, the Indian opener scored her 13th ODI century, also equalling joint-second overall in the all-time list with Suzie Bates behind her, with only Lanning being above them. Even after the top-order collapse, Deepti Sharma kept the fight alive. Promoted to No. 5, she smashed 72 off 58 balls, her quickest ODI knock, and shared a 65-run stand with Sneh Rana (35). However, Deepti’s dismissal at deep midwicket ended India’s hopes. Australia wrapped things up impressively, with Garth (3/69) and Schutt (2/53) doing the bulk of the damage.
