India's nail-biting six-run victory over England in the last Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 will always be recalled as one of Indian Test cricket's most dramatic moments. India secured a 2-2 draw in the five-match series with this victory and it was a great achievement for Shubman Gill, who was captain on the national team for the first time. Even though the triumph was accompanied by loads of accolades for Gill, there were also some old remarks in the spotlight. During the middle of the series, Kapil Dev, the former India skipper, had asked critics to spare Gill some advice, reassuring that he would learn through experience. That was not appreciated by Yograj Singh, the veteran India pacer and Yuvraj Singh's father, who has now subtly criticized Kapil for doubting the young captain's quality. Talking to ANI, Yograj asserted that such things shouldn't be said about the Indian cricket team captain. Yograj stated: "Initially there were questions about Shubman Gill's captaincy. The team received praise when media criticism stopped. However, one person said that he is new, he has a lot to learn. Tum apne maa ke pet se seekh ke aaye the? (Did you learn from your mother's womb?) Such things should not be said. He is our captain. Very proud." Also Read | End of Workload Excuse? BCCI Plans to End Pick-and-Choose Culture After IND-ENG Tests Siraj Reminds Yograj Singh of Kapil Dev Yograj Singh heaped accolades on Mohammed Siraj as well, who was the top performer in the series. Siraj was the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets, including 9 in the last match at The Oval. Yograj drew a parallel with none other than Kapil Dev himself for Siraj's performance. Yograj said: "The way our players have performed, it was incredible to watch. Mohammed Siraj’s bowling reminded me of Kapil Dev. Shubman Gill’s captaincy appeared mature, as if he wasn’t captaining for the first time." He also praised Rishabh Pant, who had played on despite suffering from an injury. He added: “Every player in the team stood firm despite being injured. Pant also played despite his injury. This is not just a match, but a victory in a battle." This thrilling victory has not only lifted the morale of Indian team but also muzzled critics of Gill's captaincy. With such performances, India's next generation appears to be ready to take the legacy forward.
