England's recurring injury woes to their pace attack could soon receive a much-needed boost, with speedster Mark Wood set to return for the fourth Test against India, which starts on July 23 in Manchester. The right-arm pacer had undergone a knee operation after the Champions Trophy 2025, where he played just two games before being ruled out. There is good news about Wood's return, with England selector Luke Wright providing an encouraging update on his recovery. "Woody has begun bowling again," he told Sky Sports, "though it's just light bowling off a few steps at the moment. But it's a great sign. He's making good progress and is ticking off recovery milestones every day. If things go well, there's a possibility he could be ready for the fourth or fifth Test. This is definitely welcome news for the English side, particularly with the aim of bolstering their pace resources for the rest of the series. Wood's express pace and experience would provide much-needed firepower to England's bowling line-up. Here is what Luke Wright said: “The plan is for him to play a few second team games, loading up in the second team for Sussex. And then the idea for him is to play for Sussex against Durham during the first Test. So, he’ll play for Sussex if all things go well, and then if all things go well fingers crossed he should be available for the second Test,” Also Read | KL Rahul Smashes Ton in India A Game Ahead of IND vs ENG Tests Wright also provided an update on Jofra Archer, another important pacer who was recovering from an injury. Archer had sustained a thumb injury during the IPL 2025. "Jofra is going good too. He's playing some second-team games as part of his comeback strategy," Wright said. With both Wood and Archer improving, English supporters will be optimistic that their pace attack will be fully fit again shortly, in time for the all-important final games of the series.
