Tom Moody, the celebrated Australian cricketer and seasoned coach, is set to join the Lucknow Super Giants setup as Global Director of Cricket. The position, as I understand it, gives him a wider portfolio — overseeing not only the IPL side but also its sister teams, the Durban Super Giants in South Africa’s SA20 and the Manchester-based outfit in The Hundred.   This move marks Moody’s reunion with his long-time associate Justin Langer, who continues as Lucknow’s head coach. Kane Williamson will also remain involved as a strategic advisor. For me, the appointment feels like a calculated alignment — combining Langer’s discipline, Moody’s structure, and Williamson’s temperament.   Moody, who turned 60 last month, brings more than two decades of experience in elite coaching roles across continents. Earlier this year, he guided the Oval Invincibles to their third successive Hundred title in England. He has also served as head coach of the Desert Vipers in the ILT20, where his teams finished runners-up in both 2023 and 2024 editions.   Read also: Anya Shrubsole set to join RCB as bowling coach   Veteran coach returns to IPL fold after Hyderabad exit   As per reports, both Surrey and Reliance Industries Limited — co-owners of the Invincibles — had sought to retain Moody. However, the Australian chose Lucknow’s offer, drawn by its global scope and consolidated leadership model. The RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, which owns the Super Giants brand, is yet to make an official announcement. The tenure of his contract remains undisclosed.   Moody’s return marks his first IPL involvement since departing Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022. He previously led Hyderabad as head coach between 2013 and 2019, steering them to the 2016 championship against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.   He later served as Hyderabad’s director of cricket before reassuming head coach duties following Trevor Bayliss’s exit. His new role at Lucknow signifies another chapter in a decorated career that bridges playing mastery with global cricket administration.
