Basit Ali, former cricketer of Pakistan, has sent a stern message to Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Yashasvi Jaiswal after yet another dismal performance in IPL 2025. The left-hand opener has had a dismal season, scoring only 107 runs with an average of 21.40 and a strike rate of 127.38. In the IPL match played on the April 9 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with Gujarat Titans (GT) emerging victorious by 58 runs, Jaiswal could manage only six runs off just seven balls. He was dismissed in the deep attempting a lofted cut shot off Arshad Khan early in the innings. Jaiswal looked promising with his half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 5, 2023, in Mullanpur, but his dismal performance against GT brought him right back to where he started. Basit Ali praised Sai Sudharsan for his dedication to the sport while criticizing Jaiswal for having lost his hunger. He warned, if he doesn't get back in focus, that RR batter will walk the same lost path as his Mumbai teammate Prithvi Shaw. "When I first saw Sai Sudharsan, I thought he was 27 or 28 years old. But, I saw one of his interviews recently, and found out he is only 23 or 24. There is cricket in his face and eyes, you can see that he loves the game very much. His goal is to be at the top, "His stomach has filled. Jaiswal isn't focusing on cricket. This is my open message: Don't make this mistake, cricket can make you cry a lot. Look at Prithvi Shaw. Love cricket and bring that passion back, it is nowhere to be seen now. You are playing zero this year when compared to last," he added (3:40)." Like Jaiswal, Shaw had climbed up the ranks in Mumbai cricket and was also earmarked as a future star after helping India win the U-19 World Cup title in 2018. However, fitness concerns and off-field issues disrupted his career. Midway through the domestic season for 2024-25, Shaw was dropped and did not attract bids during the IPL 2025 mega auction. Jaiswal's shifting base from Mumbai to Goa has also raised eyebrows in the domestic circuit. As a matter of fact, according to sources in India Today, the change is said to be due to differences that he had with one of the senior players, Ajinkya Rahane, in addition to perhaps an offer on leadership, which may have been made at Goa. The timing of the change in the midst of the IPL has drawn criticisms from fans and experts alike, but it adds to the pressure on Jaiswal, who now has to regain his form desperately. RR will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday, April 13, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, marking their first home game of the season.
