Litton overtook Shakib Al Hasan's record of 2,551 runs and is now the top run-getter for Bangladesh in T20 internationals. Litton required 19 runs to surpass Shakib's record and did so by hitting 23 runs from 16 balls at No. 3 while being part of Bangladesh's 169-run pursuit. Throughout his 114-match T20I career, Litton has reached the 50-run mark 15 times and is also Bangladesh's record holder for most sixes in T20Is. Sri Lanka began with an opening stand of 44, during which Pathum Nissanka got 22 runs off 15 balls, including three fours and a six. Mendis added 34 runs off 25 balls, with a four and three sixes. In spite of these, Sri Lanka lost wickets for Kamil Mishara and Kusal Perera to be reduced to 97/4 in 13.4 overs. Dasun Shanaka (64 in 37 balls) and Charith Asalanka (21 in 12 balls) held the innings together and guided Sri Lanka to a score of 168/7 in 20 overs.
