Cricket is a sport which offers opportunity to the players to create multiple records. However, there are some records which gets created without the player willingly wanted them to. One such unwanted record is being dismissed by the 'Timed Out' rule. Though it doesn't occur very often, but when it does, it brings disappointment among the player as well as fans. What is Timed Out Rule in Cricket? The Timed Out Rule in cricket is a mode of dismissal which occurs when one batter is dismissed, and the next incoming batter does not get ready to face the ball within three minutes (2 minutes as per ICC playing conditions). If the next batter is not ready to face the ball in this specific time period, he/she will be dismissed without even facing a single delivery. The first of the few instances is reportedly to have occurred in 1987-88 when the Eastern Province player Andrew Jordaan was timed out. Ten years later, Hemulal Yadav of Tripura was the first player to be officially dismissed by the Timed Out rule after he was involved in a conversation with his team manager, resulting into his delayed arrival at the crease after the fall of ninth, and eventually he was dismissed without even facing a single ball. Since then, other batters such as Vasbert Drakes, Andrew Harris, and Ryan Austin have also been timed out under this rule in professional cricket. The first such incident occurred in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, where Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka was dismissed against Bangladesh. After Sadeera Samarawickrama's dismissal, Mathews wasn't prepared to face the ball, and Bangladesh's captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed, which resulted in his dismissal. Godfred Bakiweyem of Ghana became only the second batter to get dismissed by Timed Out rule. This incident occurred on 17 December 2023, during a group stage match against Sierra Leone at the 2023 ACA Africa T20 Cup.
