Former Australian Women’s captain Lisa Sthalekar has brutally slammed David Warner for his proposal to make a return in Test cricket. David Warner who expressed his desire to make a comeback for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, has been getting criticism for making his proposal. Warner, who retired early this year from Test cricket has shocked the entire cricket fraternity with his bold statement on returning to Test cricket for Australia if the team needs him for the BGT. Sthalekar expressed surprise, pointing out that Warner, who was given the opportunity to retire on his own terms, seemed to be complicating things for younger openers who haven't had a proper chance to prove themselves. She said: “What baffles me is that this guy had his swansong last summer to say farewell and finish on his terms. One could argue that because of that allowance, the team is in this situation as selectors didn’t use those Tests wisely to blood the next opener." She further added: "Therefore, Warner suggesting to answer the mayday call if it was to come, will only kick the issue down the road again. With England coming out next summer, enough is enough." David Warner concluded his remarkable Test career with 8,786 runs from 112 matches, which included 26 centuries and 37 half centuries. Fittingly, he played his last Test at his home ground, the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), where he signed off with a fifty in his final innings.
