Australian captain Alyssa Healy has opened up about the panic and uncertainty that unfolded during the sudden suspension of an IPL 2025 match in Dharamsala. The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off midway after an unexpected blackout at the venue, which later turned out to be linked to emergency security protocols. Speaking on The Willow Talk podcast, Healy recalled the chilling moment when the lights went out, and players were hurriedly evacuated without any explanation. “All of a sudden a couple of the light towers went out… The guy who wrangles the group of us came up and his face was white. He was like, ‘We need to go right now,’” Healy said. The Delhi Capitals players, support staff, families, and their opponents were ushered into a holding area while the organisers arranged for transport back to the hotel. Healy revealed that they were kept in the dark about the exact nature of the emergency. “We weren’t told anything. We had no idea. Next minute we are down being shuffled into this room which was like a holding pen. All the boys were in there. We had no idea,“ she added. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) later organised a special train to move all players safely to Delhi. While on the journey, Healy and her husband, Delhi Capitals fast bowler Mitchell Starc, noticed military-grade infrastructure along the route. “We ended up going south-west towards the border which was a little bit terrifying. Mitch and I have played too much Call of Duty and we’re noticing all the SAM [surface-to-air missile] sites that were just sitting there ready to go. They’re radar-operated systems that shoot missiles at aircraft,” she said. Starc unlikely to return for the remainder of IPL 2025 As IPL action resumes with a revised schedule, doubts remain over the availability of several overseas players. While all Australian cricketers have safely returned home, Cricket Australia has left the decision of returning for the IPL to the individual players. According to an update from Starc's management, the left-arm pacer is unlikely to rejoin the Delhi Capitals for the remaining league fixtures. With DC scheduled to play Gujarat Titans on May 18, Starc’s absence would be a big blow to the Delhi Capitals as they hunt their first IPL title.
