Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has ended up in the middle of a controversy after reports say that people connected to the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were allegedly spotted at the funeral of his elder brother Shahid Akhtar in Islamabad. Shahid Akhtar passed away earlier this week following a long illness. His funeral prayers were held in Islamabad and attended by family members, close friends, past cricketers, and several public figures. Shoaib Akhtar was there as well, and he had previously shared the news of his brother’s death on social media. This issue really picked up when photos and videos from the funeral started moving around online, and then the chatter grew louder. In the clip, among the ones reportedly there, Saifullah Kasuri is mentioned as well as Inam Ur Rehman, who is the president of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML). That PMML has been described, not just once but repeatedly, as LeT’s political face or political front, if you will. Because of that, social media users began debating the matter heavily, many of them wondering why such individuals were allowed to attend, or simply how they ended up there. At the same time, as of now, there’s no solid proof that Shoaib Akhtar personally invited anyone, or that he has any kind of organisational link to Lashkar-e-Taiba, PMML, or any other banned group. So for now, the controversy is essentially centred on the reported presence of people alleged to have extremist affiliations at what was a public funeral gathering. Pakistan's legendary fast bowler mourns brother's loss, teammates pass condolences No Statement From Shoaib Akhtar Yet Neither Shoaib Akhtar nor anyone acting on his behalf has put out a statement so far about the controversy. His silence has caused mixed reactions online. Some people say Shoaib should come forward and clarify things, while others argue that funerals are generally public events, where grieving families often have very limited control over who shows up to pay respects. The discussion has also drawn extra attention due to political sensitivity in the region. Videos and photographs from the funeral keep appearing on different social media platforms, which is fuelling more talk. As things stand, no government agency or investigative authority has officially linked Shoaib Akhtar to any banned organisation. The reports continue to stay focused only on the alleged attendance of individuals said to have ties with extremist groups at his brother’s funeral. Until there is an official statement or an investigation outcome, there is no public evidence connecting the former Pakistan cricketer to any banned outfit. And for now, the entire uproar is more about who reportedly attended the funeral rather than any direct step or involvement by Shoaib Akhtar himself.
