Adrian Le Roux, India’s strength and conditioning coach, has implemented the Bronco Test for the men’s team ahead of the Asia Cup T20. The drill is designed to evaluate aerobic endurance, stamina, and speed. Players including Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, and Jitesh Sharma underwent the shuttle run in their UAE camp. The test measures how efficiently players sustain high-intensity activity over short intervals. Le Roux, speaking in a BCCI video, clarified the rationale. He said, “The run we did today is the Bronco run. It’s not a new measurement. It’s been around for a number of years in different sporting codes and we’ve recently introduced it within the team environment." He added, “The idea is two-fold. One, we use it as a training tool. Two, it serves as a measurement to gauge aerobic fitness and ensure we’re progressing in the right direction." He stated, “It’s a field test. We can do it anywhere, any ground, at any time. Players can also assess themselves individually. It’s very functional." His return to the Indian team follows stints with South Africa, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings. Le Roux aims to complement cricketing skill with physical readiness. He explained, “Cricket is a skill sport. We help players prolong careers by being physically prepared. The measures also minimise injury risk. A fit player can play more seasons and maintain peak performance." The Bronco Test is now part of India’s preparatory regime for the Asia Cup, ensuring players’ endurance, speed, and recovery are monitored systematically.
