The high-profile India vs Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup has been requested to be called off, as four law students submitted a petition to the Supreme Court citing the nation's higher interest. India, who has been on the high after sealing a 9-wicket victory against the host UAE. will be facing the arch-rival Pakistan on September 14, at Dubai. Prior to the high-profile match, a group of four Indian law students led by Urvashi Jain submitted the petition referencing the recently concluded Operation Sindoor post-Pahalgham attack. The petitioners' claim is that playing a cricket match with Pakistan sends the wrong message to the country. The plea highlights that cricket has been promoting harmony for so long. But when soldiers' lives are at stake at the border, playing cricket with a terrorist-sheltering country is inconsistent with what India preaches. The plea said, "Cricket between nation is meant to show harmony and friendship. But after the Phalagam Terror Attack and Operation Sindoor, when our people died and our soldiers risked everything, playing with Pakistan sent the opposite message that while our soldiers sacrificing their lives, we are celebrating sports with the same country sheltering terrorists (sic)." It further said, "It can also hurt the sentiments of the families of the victims who lost their lives in the hand of the Pakistani terrorist. The dignity of the nation and security of citizens come before entertainment."
