Australian cricketer Laura Harris delivered a phenomenal batting feat in the Women’s Super Smash 2025-26 during Otago's match with Canterbury on Sunday, December 28, at Molyneux Park in Alexandra. Arriving at the crease during a tough phase with Otago struggling at 46 for 2 in the sixth over, Harris changed the game in a matter of minutes with her aggressive approach. Her intent to go for the ball immediately put pressure on the Canterbury bowlers and swung the momentum fully in favour of the Otago girls. Historic 15-Ball Half-Century Laura Harris made her half-century in 15 balls, equalling the world record for the fastest fifty in women’s T20 matches. The previous record was held by Marie Kelly, who managed it for Warwickshire back in 2022. Harris played with the complete control and strength of the world's fastest hitting for a woman-five fours and four sixes-and closed out with a 52 from just 17 balls, calling for one of the best short innings the game has ever seen. Completing the chase in just 14.5 overs, Otago won the match by six wickets with still 31 balls to spare. Harris truly was the game changer and rightfully won Player of the Match for her winning contribution. An Indomitable Response After WBBL Scares After a slow season with the Sydney Thunder in the WBBL, Harris's performance in the Super Smash could not have come at a better time. In eight innings, she scored only 69 runs with an average of 11.50 in the WBBL although she maintained a high strike rate. This knock showed her ability to bounce back strongly and make an immediate impact when given the opportunity. This wasn’t the first occasion when Laura Harris had an affair with the rapid-scoring records. Earlier this year, while playing for Warwickshire, she had scored a 16-ball fifty against Durham in the Vitality Blast. Her latest innings against Canterbury is simply establishing her as one of the most dangerous power-hitting ladies in the cricket business.
