In the first ongoing Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa in Mirpur, South African wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne has scripted history. Verreynne became the first South African wicketkeeper-batsman to hit a century in Bangladesh. He scored his hundred in 132 balls which came at a very crucial point of the match. South Africa found themselves in trouble at 108/6 against Bangladesh during the Dhaka Test when Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder stepped up to turn things around. After bowling out the hosts for just 106 in the first inning, South Africa struggled with the bat as Bangladesh’s spinners applied early pressure. Verreynne's century placed South Africa in a strong position to push for victory. Notably, Verreynne became only the third South African wicketkeeper, after AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock, to score a Test century in Asia. Mulder’s crucial support, contributing to their 119-run partnership, was instrumental in giving the visitors the upper hand. After Mulder's dismissal, Dane Piedt came to the crease to join Verreyne. Together, they built a steady 72-run partnership with the wicketkeeper-batter. On a pitch where batting had become noticeably easier, they didn’t take many risks. South Africa built a strong lead of 202 runs, which Rabada further extended by quickly removing Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque. Bangladesh currently seems lost, but they will be hoping to salvage the game and make a strong comeback.
