South Africa have been dealt with a huge blow ahead their upcoming white-ball tour to Pakistan after their young speedster Kwena Maphaka was ruled out with a hamstring strain. The 19-year-old will also be missing the only T20I against Namibia on October 11. Ottneil Baartman Appointed as Maphaka's Replacement Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that Ottneil Baartman will step in for Maphaka in the Namibia T20I and the three-match T20I series against Pakistan later this month. Lizaad Williams, who is already included in the T20I team, has been included in the ODI team for the Pakistan tour. CSA said: "Subsequent scans and medical assessments revealed a grade 1-2 injury, and he will undergo rehabilitation over the next four weeks." Maphaka injured himself playing for the Lions in a four-day domestic match at Newlands last week against Western Province. Although he felt some discomfort initially, he was able to come in for the second innings and bowled superbly, claiming 3 for 26 in 10 overs, leading his team to an innings win. Further medical assessment, however, showed more damage than initially imagined, resulting in his withdrawal from the next matches. 🚨 SQUAD UPDATE 🚨Proteas Men’s fast bowler Kwena Maphaka has been ruled out of the one-off T20 International (T20I) against Namibia and the white-ball tour of Pakistan due to a hamstring strain. The 19-year-old sustained the injury during the DP World Lions’ opening 4-Day… pic.twitter.com/KDgU9aGfHg — Proteas Men (@ProteasMenCSA) October 9, 2025 Also Read | Watch: Wolvaardt takes stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Tahuhu in Women's WC South Africa's Tour Schedule Proteas' long tour of Pakistan will kick off with two Tests on October 12, three T20Is on October 28, 31, and November 1, and three ODIs on November 1, 4, and 5. CSA went to social media to verify Maphaka's non-appearance and Baartman's inclusion, with Baartman set to only play the Namibia T20I and the Pakistan T20I series. Maphaka's non-appearance is a massive loss for South Africa, given his current form and potential as one of the best upcoming fast bowlers in the world. While the Proteas set up for a busy schedule, they will wish that Maphaka's recovery from injury is smooth and that he comes back stronger for upcoming tasks.
