There was a tragic incident in Bengaluru during the celebrations of RCB's IPL 2025 title victory, when there was a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium which resulted in the death of 11 individuals including a child and left over 50 injured. The stampede happened on June 4, a day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their first-ever IPL trophy by beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a thrilling final at Ahmedabad. Thousands of spectators had gathered in the stadium to watch a unique function held for the ceremony of the RCB players. Even though the ceremony was organized just for the people having passes, a large number of fans without pass also came, eager to get a glimpse of their idols. The situation took a turn towards a tragic stampede because of poor crowd management and failure to make adequate arrangements. In the wake of this tragic event, a significant development has taken place within the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The secretary of KSCA, A. Shankar, and treasurer, E. S. Jairam, have resigned. They had tendered their resignations to KSCA president Raghuram Bhat on June 6 night. Jointly releasing a statement on Saturday, the two officials said they were resigning on moral grounds despite having played a marginal role in planning and organizing the event. Their resignation has ignited a new controversy over whether the KSCA, the organizers, or the crowd control authorities should be blamed for the horrific accident. Subsequently, RCB has come out with a compensation package for the families of victims and also established a relief fund to support those who got injured in the stampede. As investigations are ongoing, every effort is being made so that such an incident does not occur at public events in the future. Few of the RCB officials have been arrested, while the icon player of RCB, Virat Kohli, also have an FIR filed to his name by an activist in Bengaluru.
