After almost three months of the tragic stampede during RCB victory celebrations, the Karnataka State of Cricket Association is finally hosting a tournament in the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The stadium, in the recent days, has been deprived of two major tournaments, however has been compensated with the state board's K. Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy. The K. Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy is a red-ball tournament featuring 16 teams. Mumbai, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Chattisgarh are among the participants. Thus, the tournament is likely to host popular players like Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Venkatesh Iyer, Vijay Shankar and Shashank Singh. The tournament will be starting on September 26. Chinnaswamy Stadium will host 6 matches in the tournaments, according to ESPNCricinfo. It includes the semifinal and the final. But fans are not allowed inside the stadium. This happened because the local electricity board, The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), has disconnected their service from the stadium. They reasoned that the stadium does not meet required fire safety regulations. Earlier, KSCA could not host the Maharaja Trophy T20. It was shifted to Mysore as Bengaluru police denied providing adequate safety clearance. Chinnaswamy stadium was lucky enough to host the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup. They had the rights for the opening ceremony, a semi-final match and the 2nd November's final match. However, they even lost it as the government tagged the stadium as incapable of hosting a large-scale event. However, Bengaluru has already prepared a substitute stadium in the outskirts of the city. The state's depty Chief Minister announced that the stadium will be able to host 60,000 spectators and will cover an extensive area of 75 acres. Well, recently, Royal Challengers Bengaluru declared a compensation of ₹25 lakh for each bereaved family and assured sustained initiatives to strengthen spectator safety.
