The former World Cup winner, Indian batter Krisnamachari Srikkanth, slammed the Indian management for keeping Harshit Rana in the future prospective for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The Kolkata Knight Riders pacer is currently an all-format player along with the captain, Shubman Gill. However, Rana's selection in the ODI team has surprised the fans and critics, especially when players like Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami have been snubbed. The 1983 World Cup winner Srikkanth trolled the management, saying that Rana is an "yes-man to Gambhir," which sealed his position. Speaking on his You Tube Channel Cheeky Cheeka, he said, "There is only one permanent member - Harshit Rana. Nobody knows why he is there in the team. You don't pick some irrespective if they do well and take others even if they don't. Best is to be like Harshit Rana and be a constant yes-man to Gambhir to be selected." And if the team is preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup, then considering the all rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is illogical to him. Srikkanth feels that NKR is not yet ready for the format. And if BCCI keeps on backing Rana and Reddy for the world cup, then the trophy will still be out of reach. Srikkanth said, "You should start building towards the 2027 World Cup. But I feel they've not. If you pick Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy among the probabilities, then you can wave goodbye to the trophy." The discussion intensifies with the involvement of head coach Gambhir, implying his impact might be affecting the selection decisions. Srikkanth’s comment that Rana is Gambhir’s ‘favourite’ points to a potential underlying cultural issue, though its accuracy remains uncertain.
