The 2024 IPL Champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders, have signed the former Chennai Super Kings batter Shane Watson as the assistant coach of the team. This means he will join the team's coaching camp under head coach Abhishek Nayar. The former IPL Champion Watto had enjoyed a long cricketing tenure of 12 years. He started his career with Rajasthan Royals before coming to Chennai Super Kings. The two-time IPL champion has four centuries to his name in this format. The former Australian all-rounder had earlier worked with Delhi Capitals in 2022 under the leadership of his former national captain Ricky Ponting. On November 12, KKR announced Watson's arrival in the purple camp with a social media post. "Kolkata Knight Riders are delighted to welcome Shane Watson as our new Assistant Coach ahead of IPL 2026.With a distinguished career across formats and coaching experience at the highest level, Shane brings invaluable insight to our setup. His deep understanding of T20 cricket in particular is world-class, backed by his excellence in the format across the globe." It further added, "His achievements as both player and coach reflect a clear winning mindset: a quality that strongly aligns with our ethos at KKR.We look forward to his contributions on and off the field." I’m eager to work closely with the coaching group and players to help bring another title to Kolkata.” Notably, Watson played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20Is for Australia, scoring over 10,000 runs and claiming more than 280 wickets in international cricket across all formats.
