The Indian top-order was the centre of attention as India practiced at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday, preparing for the second ODI of the three-match series against Australia. In India's rain-interrupted series opener last week in Perth, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli managed to score only 18 runs between them, all getting out within the powerplay in a seven-wicket defeat. Rain still remained a worry for Tuesday's session. The Indian team was supposed to practice indoors, but the groundsmen soon got the outdoor nets ready as soon as the rain stopped. As there were still wet patches, which were a problem, the fast bowlers kept things easy. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh bowled for only 15 minutes each to the top-order batsmen before they joined Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna in the gym. Rohit was the first to face the nets, with the aim of counteracting Josh Hazlewood's hard-length balls. Hazlewood had bowled him out for eight in the opening ODI. He was also observed exchanging technical knowledge and strategy with Gill. Following some throwdown specialists' warm-up deliveries, he requested them to bowl at full tilt. He was seen constantly motivational-talking to himself, pumping himself up during the entire session. Though it was not a completely faultless session for Kohli, as he edged a couple of balls and mis-timed a few, he kept his calm and hit a couple of sharp drives and big pulls. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir was a keen participant in the session, interacting with players and going through batting strategies. The Indian team will conduct their last training session for the second ODI on Wednesday morning. Both Rohit and Kohli will be keen to end their critics' brigade with a dominating batting show in Adelaide. The Perth performance saw some rustiness, as it was their first international game in seven months, with both players being absent since the end of IPL 2025 in June.
