According to recent reports, KL Rahul’s three-year stint as captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has come to an end, with the franchise set to have a new leader for the 2024 IPL season. Though the franchise had initially hinted at not retaining their skipper, a new report suggests that it was actually Rahul’s decision to step away from Lucknow, despite being offered a retention deal. As quoted by TOI, a source said: "LSG were ready to offer top retention bracket to Rahul, but Rahul eventually decided to move on due to personal and professional reasons." Although Rahul is no longer part of India’s T20I plans, he’s expected to be a sought-after player in the IPL auction next month, largely due to his leadership skills. Having captained LSG for three seasons and guided them to the playoffs twice, he’s proven his ability to lead a team. While there’s a buzz around a possible reunion with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rahul is also likely to attract interest from Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans. The source further said: "At the moment, there are four franchises who have expressed their interest in him - Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, and the Chennai Super Kings. Expect all four to go hard for him in the auction." The 32-year-old cricketer has featured in 132 IPL matches, scoring a total of 4,683 runs with an impressive average of 45.47 and a strike rate of 134.61. His record includes four centuries and 37 fifties, showcasing his consistency and skill in the league.
