Kolkata Knight Riders began their IPL 2025 campaign on a very poor note and lost by seven wickets to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens. The team of skipper Ajinkya Rahane could not utilize their home conditions to maximum effect. The best of the bowlers from RCB was left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya, while KKR's Narine and Chakravarthy took one wicket each. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane Stated: “We would love to see the pitch helping the spin bowlers but again, this wicket was under cover for the last one-and-a-half days. Both the spinners we have, the quality they have, they can bowl in any kind of wicket and I am sure they are confident as well.” Curator Sujan Mukherjee, however, felt it was unnecessary to tamper with the pitch at Eden Gardens in the wake of this setback. In his opinion, the spinners from RCB had fared exceptionally well on the same surface. Mukherjee told RevSportz: "As per the IPL rules and regulations, franchises have no say over the pitch. Ever since I have taken charge (as Eden curator), the pitches here have been like this. It was like this in the past. Things haven't changed now, and it will not be altered in the future.” Meanwhile, KKR bowling coach Bharat Arun expressed confidence in Andre Russell to deliver a goods when they play important match against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday. Russell failed to deliver in the opener but was keen on coming forward to prove his mettle on Guwahati. Russell, on the other hand, managed just four runs, while Venkatesh Iyer fell cheaply as well, indicating that the team was running into serious trouble. But Arun is hopeful that the return of Russell was imminent. As KKR moves towards the next match against the Rajasthan Royals, their board of management may also reassess their plans. Eden Gardens will next welcome Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 3, but irrespective of Jamshedpur's request for a spin-friendly track, Mukherjee has stated that no special alterations will be made.
