Following their narrow last ball defeat to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026, the Kolkata Knight Riders have finally broken their silence. Doubts have been raised about a critical umpiring decision which may have swung the contest. 182 would have been the target to get in Eden Gardens and LSG managed to clinch an incredible victory with a tremendous last ball finish. With 7 needed from two balls, Mukul Choudhary smashed a six followed by a single on the final delivery which proved decisive. Another final ball nail biter for this season but the major talk surrounding the tie was an earlier event. Finn Allen's Dismissal Under Scrutiny The major controversy that arose during the clash was the dismissal of KKR batter Finn Allen. The catch on the boundary rope came under question and if the fielder Digvesh Rathi had touched the cushion at the boundary before collecting the catch. In the eyes of most from the KKR camp the decision was not sufficiently reviewed. After the match Rovman Powell made no bones about it. He stated that it was a 'umpiring blunder' and questioned why more camera angles were not reviewed by the umpires. At the post-match conference, Rovman Powell said: "Definitely (more angles should have been looked at). We talked about that when he came off. We thought we had seen in the IPL that the umpires have gone upstairs for lesser things, and that are not as close as that. Maybe it was a blunder on their part, but we're not going to look into that and say that is what cost us two points tonight." Had Finn Allen's catch actually crossed the boundary; the Kolkata Knight Riders might have posted 6 more runs on the score sheet. That would have likely been the margin to secure a win for them. But young Mukul Choudhary had other ideas and played an outstanding innings under pressure to seal the win for his side with help from Avesh Khan. Powell said that he was disappointed that the side couldn't win at home. He added: "It's very disappointing. You want to make Kolkata; you want to make Eden Gardens as your fortress. It's your home, it's your home where you have your fans behind you. So it always feels good to win at home. But, unfortunately, tonight we weren't able to." Praising Mukul, Powell said: "A lot of credit has to be given to the boys. I think after scoring 181, we believed that we could have won the game. But credit to the youngster, he batted really well." This loss is a big one as KKR are still trying to find their first win in IPL 2026. KKR have now lost three matches and have one abandoned.
