Shubman Gill, in the post-match conference on February 06, has confirmed that Virat Kohli will be back on the field for the second ODI against England at Cuttack. India's vice captain has also assured that Kohli has not succumbed to any horrible injury, except for some swelling on his knee, but he will be back for the next practice. Virat Kohli was sidelined from the first ODI of the series against England due to injury issues. Yashasvi Jaiswal walked into the side but scored just 15 runs on his debut match. Speaking about Virat Kohli's injury, Shubman said, "When he woke up in the morning, he had some swelling in his knee. He was fine till yesterday's practice session. There's nothing to worry. He will definitely be fit for the next game." Later, he partnered with Axar Patel and battled cramps at humid Nagpur, smashed 13 boundaries, yet fell short of a well-deserved century. The declared hero of the match, Gill, scored 87 runs off 95 balls and showed necessary hopes for India's highly anticipated campaign, the ICC Champions Trophy. Speaking about the game strategy, Shubman siad, "I think I play at number three in Test matches, so it wasn’t a huge adjustment. But, definitely, the situation is slightly different. If you are batting at number three and early wickets fall, you have to play according to the situation. However, if the openers have built a good partnership, then you have to carry that momentum forward. That was my thought process—to bat according to the situation and the over in which I had to come in." India will face England for the second ODI on February 9 at Cuttack's Barabati Stadium.
