The 20-over tournament in India is scheduled to kick off on November 23. As reported by PTI, a BCCI source said: "It was a like-for-like replacement because the Indian team needs to do a simulation for Mitchell Starc. Dayal was originally supposed to play the A Test but was sent to South Africa. If Khaleel can't bowl then there was no point in keeping him back.” Yash Dayal has joined the Indian squad in Khaleel’s absence. Dayal who was in South Africa for the T20I side, has spent the past two days training with the team. Yash Dayal has been included as a traveling reserve in the squad. It is worth mentioning that Devdutt Padikkal has also been added to the Indian squad as Shubman Gill suffered a thumb injury during the intra-squad match simulation against India A at the WACA stadium. Padikkal will likely be stepping into the first Test match at the number 3 position in place of Gill.
