In the latest development, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals has appointed Kevin Pietersen as their new mentor for the upcoming 2025 edition. The franchise has taken some bold decisions ahead of the new season and they have brought some new changes to their coaching staff as well to change their fortune. Kevin Pietersen, who was associated with Delhi Daredevils (former name of Delhi Capitals) in 2012 and 2014 IPL seasons where he captained the side in 2014 IPL edition as well. The former English batter will join the coaching staff that consists of Head coach Hemang Badani, assistant coach Matthew Mott, bowling coach Munaf Patel and the Director of cricket Venugopal Rao. It is worth mentioning that the franchise is yet to announce their team captain for this coming edition but speculations are coming to state that Axar Patel is likely to lead the team. Parth Jindal, the co-owner of Delhi Capitals further expressed his joy about Pietersen’s addition to the coaching unit and said that his valuable experience will help the franchise to improve further. As quoted by The Hands India, Parth Jindal said: "KP was arguably one of the best modern-day batters, and having him in our team is a valuable addition. We look forward to seeing him apply his knowledge and help our players drive towards our objectives. My best wishes to him in this new role." Earlier this week, Delhi Capitals had appointed Matthew Potts as their new assistant coach for this season. Matthew Pott, who was the head coach of the England T20 World Cup winning team in 2022, also boasts vast experience in coaching the Australian Women’s team. With a new change in the coaching unit, it will be interesting to see if it brings new luck to the Delhi Team. They have played just a single IPL final in 17 seasons and are set to start their new IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24, who will be captained by Rishabh Pant.
