South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj has been ruled out of the last two matches of the current T20I series against England, Cricket South Africa said on Friday. Maharaj has been injured in his groin. South African left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin, 30, who has not played a T20I since September 2024, has been picked as his cover. South Africa won the rain-reduced T20I in Cardiff by 14 runs (DLS Method). The remaining two matches will be hosted in Manchester and Nottingham. The absence of Keshav Maharaj will certainly be felt, considering the role he has played for South Africa all these years. His accuracy and ability to remain calm in pressure situations are features that have become synonymous with Maharaj. He has frequently delivered game-changing breakthroughs in the middle overs. His capacity to manage the run flow while also contributing with game-changing wickets has earned him the position as one of the most trusted spinners for South Africa across formats. Both in limited-overs cricket and in Tests, Maharaj has been a consistent performer, leading the Proteas both with skill and experience. His leadership abilities have also reinforced his significance in the team configuration.
