Fans witnessed a unique and unfortunate wicket, that the victim, Sophie Devine, herself had to wait there perplexed for a double confirmation. It happened on November 9, in the WBBL match between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers at the WACA Ground. In the eighth over, Devine, the Perth skipper, went a few steps ahead to attack spinner Ashleigh Gardner. However, Devine missed the line and the ball reached the Sydney keeper, Emma Manix-Greeves. Even Emma fumbled, but the ball deflected from her gloves and touched the stumps. The stumps shook at first but when the ball passed away a little, the stumps lit up. Amid the confusion, on-field umpires Ahmad Khan and Kate Holloman decided to consult the third umpire to check if the bails had been dislodged by the ricochet or by the wicketkeeper’s gloves. Following multiple replays, third umpire Ashlee Gibbons concluded that Devine was stumped, confirming that the stumps were disturbed just before Manix-Greeves’ gloves touched them. Devine stood there in shock, while the crowd gasped in disbelief.
