The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) suspended former Indian pacer S Sreesanth for three years. This was done after Sreesanth made false and insulting remarks against the KCA. He had criticized the board for not naming Sanju Samson in the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy. The decision was taken in a special general body meeting of the KCA. Sreesanth, co-owner of Kerala Premier League side Kollam Sailors, received a show-cause notice for his remarks. Franchises Questioned, Legal Action Planned Besides Sreesanth, three other Kerala Premier League teams namely Alappuzha Team Lead, Alappuzha Ripples, and Kollam Aeries, were also issued show-cause notices. However, after the teams cleared the air on their stand, no action was initiated against them. The KCA statement read: "Following the controversial remarks, the KCA had issued show-cause notices to Sreesanth and the franchisee teams Kollam Aries, Alleppey Team Lead content creator Sai Krishnan, and Alleppey Ripples. As the franchisee teams gave satisfactory replies to the notice, the meeting decided not to proceed with further action against them. However, the KCA instructed the team management to be vigilant when including members." The board alleged they all leveled unfounded allegations against the association. The trouble began when Sanju Samson was not picked for Kerala's Vijay Hazare Trophy team. He was also later left out of India's Champions Trophy team. Sreesanth was not pleased with this and went on to severely criticize the KCA. The board made it clear that the move against him was not because he was in favor of Samson but because of his offensive statements, which violated his contract as a team co-owner. The statement read: "When Sreesanth was in jail facing allegations in the infamous match-fixing scandal, KCA officials visited and supported him. Although the court quashed the criminal case, it is a fact that he has not been acquitted in the match-fixing case. In such a situation, there is no need for Sreesanth to take up the protection of other players." KCA also stated that even when Sreesanth was in trouble legally previously, they never dropped him. When it comes to Sanju Samson, KCA explained that he was left out due to the fact that he had sent an email to the board informing them that he wouldn't join the camp. The selectors only made picks among players who were at camp in Wayanad.
