Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee has omitted Karun Nair from India's Test team for the two-match series against West Indies. Nair, who had a limited contribution in the English series, was substituted by Devdutt Padikkal, who was dropped for the England tour previously. Talking to the media in the wake of the selection meet, Agarkar stated the committee was looking for "a little bit more" from the senior batsman. Nair made 205 runs in eight innings against England, including a half-century, but was unable to get a big score that might have sewn him up. Coach Reacts to Nair's Axing Nair's childhood coach, Vijay Madyalkar, was disappointed with the choice. Speaking to India Today, he stated: "I felt very bad for him. He was deserving one more chance, that is what I feel. But, again, it is the selectors’ call. They think in a different way. He was comfortable playing there. He had played two seasons in the England county league. The only thing was that a big hundred didn’t come. But, he was involved in crucial partnerships throughout the series." The batting sensation, who was a part of Vidarbha's Ranji Trophy-winning squad, is back in Karnataka now. He will, however, return to the Karnataka team for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season and look to score big so as to get a chance back in the national team. Nair's Career Highlights Karun Nair played his Test debut against England in 2016 and has accumulated 579 runs from 15 innings in 10 Tests, including a century and a half-century. Significantly, in December 2016, Nair was the second Indian batsman to achieve a triple-century in Test cricket during the Chennai Test against England. At limited-overs cricket, Nair has turned up for two ODIs, scoring 46 runs in the course of India's tour of Zimbabwe during 2016. He has not played T20 Internationals for India. Though out of the national team, Nair is still a valued cricketer in domestic cricket and will look to return to the national team with good performances for Karnataka.
